Installation: The Outlook Client for Dynamics CRM 4.0

The Outlook Client for Dynamics CRM 4.0 can generate a lot of issues, particularly if you want to be able to go offline. If you treat it with some care though, it will serve you well! A few tips:

· Before installing the client, use Microsoft Update to ensure that your OS and other software is up to date.

· Make sure you install the same CRM Update Rollup as your CRM server currently has installed.

· Don’t install “Free” Internet Explorer toolbars (e.g. Yahoo/Google) as these often contain Pop Up blockers and other supposedly helpful tools that can all conspire against the CRM client.

· Make sure that your CRM server has been added to your trusted sites - both internal and external addresses if you are using an Internet Facing Deployment (IFD).

· Check your synchronisation settings. The most common problem is unintentionally choosing to synchronise thousands of contacts into Outlook (and hence to your phone etc.)

· If you plan on going offline, review your Local Data settings carefully. Avoid the temptation to take everything offline, the local data settings are there for a reason!

An error has occurred in Microsoft dynamics CRM Mail Merge

This problem usually happens because of three things:

1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954064 The transactioncurrencyid must be added as a datafield when editing template within CRM. Weird quirk URL link explains all

2. The user has not added the CRM Url to her list of Trusted Sites IE>Tools>Internet Options>security>Trusted Sites

3. Mail merge doc should be saved as XML file. Even if it is saved as xml file it could still be incorrect. Resaved the document and reattach it in Mail Templates will sort it out

McAfee slows down CRM 4.0 pages if you are using Javascript in them.

Do you use McAfee 8.x Anti Virus with Microsoft CRM 4.0? Reason I ask is because I came across this article today which talks about slow page loading with CRM.

http://www.tekoppele.com/Blog/post/2009/05/20/McAfee-ScriptScan-Solution-for-Dynamics-CRM.aspx

If you use any Javascript in any of your CRM pages. You may notice it takes quite a long time to load up. This is due McAfee scanning the page every time it opens up!

To resolve this you need disable ScriptScan on the workstation. (Url above explains in more detail how to do this)

McAfee are working on a patch (8.5 Anti Virus). So be on the lookout if you are experiencing this problem.

Workflows are not Working!

Just a little tip for people involved with MS-CRM… it appears that the “Asynchronous Service” that deals with Workflows, and other bulk jobs (like email campaigns) doesn’t always start automatically when you restart a server. So worth remembering to go to Services and check that it is running after a reboot!
